About This Spot

Stepping into Trattoria Calandrino feels much like entering a cherished family dining room tucked away from the bustle of Florence’s more touristic streets. The space is intimate—small enough that you immediately sense the genuine warmth of everyone present, from the quietly attentive staff to the friendly owner who often lingers to share a few words with guests. It’s a place where time slows just enough to savor not only the food but the connection that unfolds at your table.

The mood here is relaxed yet heartfelt, embodying the easy rhythms of daily Tuscan life. There’s an affectionate hum permeating the dining room, the kind that reveals the restaurant as a local gem—a refuge where authentic Florentine cooking is crafted with care rather than hurried for the rate of foot traffic. The pace invites quiet conversation and the simple pleasure of being present without distraction.

Food at Calandrino emerges as a lived experience rather than a mere meal. Dishes arrive with a straightforward elegance, shaped by seasons and tradition, drawing you into the richness of home-cooked Italian flavors. The house wine flows alongside rustic bites and generous plates, each designed to bring you closer to the stories and culture embedded in every forkful. Whether it’s the humble yet soulful touches on pasta or the thoughtfully paired sides, every detail feels like an expression of genuine care rather than showmanship.

Visitors often find themselves lingering longer than expected, drawn into moments that feel more like visiting dear friends than just dining out. The friendly, accommodating spirit here—responsive to requests and quietly proud of its roots—makes for an experience that resonates more deeply than a typical restaurant stop. It’s the kind of place where strangers become companions over shared appreciation for food and hospitality.

For those wandering through Florence, Trattoria Calandrino offers a sincere corner to slow down and savor the unpretentious joys of Italian family cooking, far from tourist trappings. It’s the kind of spot that captures the heart of local life and quietly leaves its mark on anyone lucky enough to discover it.

The staff are friendly, they made it spicy when I requested. I had Pasta Arrabiata, it tasted very good and fresh. I would recommend them.

The dining room is small but has all the heart you would expect from a true Italian restaurant. The food is sublime and the owner very friendly. This place does not feel like it was build for tourists. We stayed to talk with the owner for a while after our meal and I can't recommend this place enough to anyone who wants to eat in a real family-owned restaurant.

We came with my wife in March nearly 2 years ago, it was incredible and friendly, a nice feeling in Florence, and we hadn't booked ahead. I was so nice that we said we would put a comment but lost the contact card which I have just found so here is my comment: Wonderful, thank you for everything and if you're looking for authentic cucina fiorentina GO!

This place should be heaving. True traditional family run place. Delicious food and great owners. Recommended by a friend who stumbled upon it. Every should come and enjoy! Forget those tourist traps closer to the centre.

Very traditional, non-touristy trattoria. The service was very good and the food was simple and delicious! would recommend if you’re in the area.
